To increase visibility and voice of school boards SCSBA offers Two Days At the Capital (2DAC) designed for board members, superintendents and public school advocates by region to: spend a day at the State House visiting one-on-one with their legislators to discuss legislation impacting public schools, attend legislative committee meetings, and provide increased visibility for the crucial role of local school boards. Each board is encouraged to send at least two members, one of whom is the Board Legislative Contact (BLC) who will serve as the coordinator for the board's activities during the two-hour visit at the State House, to include scheduling meetings with legislators and attending committee meetings.
Event begins at 9 a.m. with registration and continental breakfast at the Capital City Club, located at located on the 25th floor of the Southtrust Building at 1201 Main Street in Columbia (across the street from the State House). At 10:15 a.m. the group will walk to the State House to meet with legislators to advocate SCSBA position on issues impacting schools. At noon, the event will conclude with lunch and a program at the Capital City Club.
The regions for this meeting are Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Chesterfield, Charleston, Clarendon, Colleton, Darlington, Dillon, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry, Jasper, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg, Sumter, and Williamsburg counties.
