The Missouri Alert Network (MAN)
provides rapid notification to Missouri’s schools in the event of a
statewide emergency or other situation that might endanger the security of
Missouri students. The Network allows state officials to contact local schools
within minutes of an emergency through an appropriate voice, text, or email message.
Superintendents of Missouri public school districts are
automatically signed up free-of-charge to receive notifications (including
monthly test messages) from the Missouri Alert Network.
For each additional person in a school
district to receive such notifications, there is a one hundred dollar
($100) per year charge to cover administrative expenses.
While the Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA)
established the Network and manages the collection of records and other
administrative aspects for its functioning, the decision to activate the
Network rests with the Missouri Department of Public Safety—not MSBA.
