About the Meetings

Schools across our state continue to be involved in prevention planning and crisis response training. But is it enough? Should we and could we be doing more? The answers to these questions are not easy to find, but devoting time to focus on learning more is a good first step.

Join KASB and USA-Kansas as we focus on school safety and security during Regional Meetings this fall. Time will be set aside for administrators and board of education members to meet separately on topics of interest.

The first part of the meeting, from 5:30-6:20 p.m., will include dinner and meetings for both school administrators and board of education members. KASB Advocacy Staff will join board of education members and lead a discussion on legislative positions and issues for the 2019 Legislative Session. USA-Kansas staff will be meeting with district administrators to discuss new association communications options, advocacy needs and a new health care option with a familiar company.

Both groups will then participate in a combined meeting from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on school safety topics.

  • Discover what measures schools are taking across the state and nation to secure their schools by adding new security measures.
  • Gain a greater understanding of student mental health concerns relating to school safety and the services and support that can make a difference.
  • Build a network within your region to address school safety issues from a community-wide perspective.
  • Understand the role boards of education have in creating safe schools for students, staff and the community.
  • Gather key resources on school safety to share with your district and board to get discussions started in your own community.
  • Learn more about the school safety initiatives sponsored by schools in your region.
  • Clarify the implications of recent legislation regarding school safety and crisis drills.
