
2023 GSBA/GSSA Annual Conference
Join us for the 2023 Georgia
School Boards Association (GSBA) and Georgia School Superintendents Association
(GSSA) Annual Conference at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in
Atlanta! This will be offered in a limited hybrid
format.
For
Pre-Conference workshops, Legal Issues
will be offered in person and virtually. The Supportive Learning Environment
& Literacy workshops will only be in-person. The Attorneys only session
will also only be in-person.
The Annual
Conference will be held in person and virtually. The only sessions that will be
streamed to virtual attendees will be the General Sessions in the Grand Ballroom.
Breakout sessions will not be available to
virtual attendees.

REGISTRATION INFO:
Click on the green "Register" button at the top of this page, then enter your email address to register for the Annual Conference as well as the Workshop of your
choice.
Registration for
the Conference and Workshops opens Tuesday, October 17, at 10:00am.
The Conference
registration link will be emailed out on Tuesday, October 10. It will also be posted
on the GSBA website under the Event Registration Page and the Conference Page.
This link will go live on Tuesday, October 17, at 10:00am. You may register all of your
governance team at this time utilizing this one link.
Registrations fees will increase by $70 after Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
On-site registration will be available for the Pre-Conference Workshops. However, if the conference itself is sold out (if we’ve reached capacity in the Grand Ballroom), on-site registration will not be available.
If the conference is full, your name can be added to a waiting list. Board members will receive first priority to attend. If you are moved off of the waiting list after November 14, you will not pay the increased registration fee.
If you join the waiting list AFTER November 14, you will pay the increased registration price.
PLEASE NOTE: No additional meal tickets are available to purchase for non-attendees except for Friday Morning's breakfast.
HOTEL RESERVATIONS:
The reservation
link for the Renaissance Waverly Hotel will go live Thursday, October 19, at 10:00am.
Hotel
reservations may only be made AFTER
registering for the Conference and/or Pre-Conference Workshops. After you
register for the conference, a confirmation page will appear, including a link to the Waverly reservations; this will also be sent in a
confirmation email. This link will go live on Thursday, October 19, at 10:00am and will not be made available anywhere else. Please use this one link to make
all reservations, there is not a unique link for each individual
registrant.
Per hotel policy, only 3
reservations may be made at one time.

PARKING:
The Waverly
offers a discounted rate for parking: $15/day for daytime parking and $20/night
for overnight parking. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Valet parking options
are not available.
Overflow parking
is available at the Cobb Galleria for $10/day. Please visit their website for more details. Overflow parking options at the Cobb
Galleria and parking cannot be reimbursed by the Renaissance Waverly Hotel.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Both in-person
and virtual cancellations must be submitted in writing to Leigh Crow, lcrow@gsba.com, no later than Tuesday,
November 14. Each individual cancellation will be assessed a $70
fee. For instance, if you cancel both a pre-conference workshop and conference
registration, a $70 fee will be charged for each cancellation. Cancellations
will not receive any refunds after this date.
If cancellations
are made before November 14 and you have already paid, we will
refund the registration to the original form of payment. No credits may be
applied to future events.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
For the Conference:
If
switching from in-person to virtual, requests must be submitted in writing to
Leigh Crow, lcrow@gsba.com,
no later than November 14, for a refund of the difference. Any switches from
in-person to virtual AFTER November 14 will
not receive a refund for the difference.
If
you want to switch from virtual to in-person, requests must be submitted by November 14
and the difference will be charged. If you want to switch from virtual to in-person
AFTER November 14, you will pay the $70 increased
registration fee.
If
you would like to substitute a registration from one board member to another,
you may do so at any time.
For the Pre-Conference Workshops:
If
you would like to switch from one workshop to another, requests must be
submitted in writing to Leigh Crow, lcrow@gsba.com, no later than November 14.
Workshop switches AFTER November 14 will be charged the $70
increased fee.
Legal
Issues Workshop ONLY: Switching from in-person to virtual AFTER November 14,
will not be charged the increased $70 fee.
Pre-Conference Workshops

GSBA affords
local school board members a great opportunity to fulfill their annual training
requirements for the fiscal year in conjunction with the GSBA/GSSA Annual Conference held in Atlanta. This is a convenient way to obtain the necessary credit for
annual training (see O.C.G.A 20-2-230).
GSBA is proud
to offer 3 Workshops at the 2023 Annual Conference. All workshops will go from
8:30am to 4:00pm. All 3 workshops will provide 6 hours of credit for board members.
Only the Legal Issues Workshop will be offered both virtually and in person for board members only. For all in-person attendees, a continental breakfast will be
offered in the morning, boxed lunches will be served at noon, and breaks will
be available throughout the day. Virtual attendees will watch the Legal Issues Workshop via our online event platform Whova. More information on how to access this will be shared at a later date.
The Supportive Learning Environment
& Literacy Workshops will only be offered in person. The Attorney’s
afternoon session will also only be offered in person.

E. Freeman Leverett Legal Issues Workshop (November 29, 2023, 8:30am-4:00pm)

This is one of the most important and prestigious workshops offered annually by GSBA. For over sixty years, GSBA has been the leader in helping local school boards interpret the complexities of Georgia's laws, rules, and regulations regarding public education. The E. Freeman Leverett Legal Issues Workshop is the most heavily attended annual workshop offered by GSBA.
The Governance Team's Focus on Developing a Supportive Learning Environment (November 29, 2023, 8:30am-4:00pm)

The Governance Team’s focus on developing a supportive
learning environment is crucial for the overall success and well-being of
students. They can help create a place that promotes positive relationships,
student engagement, and holistic development, ensuring that all students have
the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. In alignment
with the Georgia Department of Education Standards for Effective Governance,
GSBA seeks to highlight effective practices linked to this important work. Topics
may include but are not limited to, School & Student Safety, Student
Discipline, Student & Staff Well-Being, and Student Support Services.
Literacy & The Governance Team's Role (November 29, 2023, 8:30am-4:00pm)

The Governance Team plays an essential role in literacy
development within the school system. Their responsibilities include setting
policies, providing guidance, and overseeing the implementation of literacy
programs within their district. They are responsible for ensuring that literacy
is promoted, supported, and accessible to all students within their school
system. In alignment with the Georgia Department of Education Standards for
Effective Governance, GSBA seeks to highlight effective practices linked to
this important work. Topics may include but are not limited to, Innovative
Programs, Policy Development, Resource Allocation, and Collaborations &
Partnerships.

All activities will
take place in the Grand Ballroom with the exception of our Breakout Sessions,
those will take place in other spaces at the Waverly. The Annual Conference will
be offered both in person and virtually. Breakout sessions will only be offered
in person.
For in person
attendees, breakfast and lunch will be offered on Thursday and only breakfast
will be offered on Friday.
