Poverty & Consciousness

How can we create the kind of community where everyone reaches their fullest potential? Governance Teams (Board Members and Superintendent) and district leaders are faced with the daily challenge of providing the most equitable opportunities for all students and their families. And leading through this equity lens requires a clear understanding of the impact of poverty and race on these opportunities. Join nationally renowned poverty experts, Dr. Donna Beegle and Dr. Shariff Abdullah, in a discussion about creating public school communities that work for all. Throughout this workshop, participants will:

  • Collaborate on ways to ensure high expectations for all student groups
  • Understand their role as a leader through the equity lens
  • Explore the intersection of race and class
  • Examine how subconscious bias gets in the way of breaking barriers
  • Learn real world strategies to eliminate racism and poverty

This workshop is open to board members, superintendents, administrators, district personnel, other educational leaders, all elected officials, nonprofit organizations and other community members. We encourage you to share this with your staff!
