Enter your email address above to register for the Summer Conference as well as the Workshop of your choice.  PLEASE NOTE:  THERE IS NO NEED TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL LUNCH OR BREAKFAST TICKETS UNLESS YOU ARE BRINGING A GUEST WITH YOU.  IF YOU NEED TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL TICKETS FOR BREAKFAST OR LUNCH, THE FEE IS $40.00 PER PERSON PER MEAL.
 

 

GSBA affords local school board members a great opportunity to fulfill their annual training requirements for the fiscal year in conjunction with the GSBA Summer Conference held in Savannah. This is a convenient way to obtain the necessary credit for annual training (see O.C.G.A 20-2-230). Three excellent programs are available for board members, superintendents and other educational professionals who represent local boards of education. Below is a brief description of each workshop with pricing. 


Pre-Conference Workshops -


New Board Member Orientation (June 6-7, 2018) - $
295.00
The finest introduction to local school board service found anywhere. All new school board members are required by law (O.C.G.A 20-2-230) to attend New Board Member Orientation within the first year of assuming office. In the day and a half training, school board members will be introduced to school law, school finance issues including budget, parliamentary procedures, superintendent evaluation process and much more.   The workshop begins at 10:00 AM on Wednesday for those seeking more in-depth information.  Lunch is included for those attending the early session on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 AM.  For those arriving at 1 PM, lunch is included in this registration fee for Thursday.  Participants who attend the early session on Wednesday, June 6 beginning at 10:00 AM will receive 12 credit hours.  Participants must attend both days of this workshop and will receive 9 credit hours.     Participants who arrive at 1 PM on Wednesday, June 6 will earn 9 credit hours.  ALL CHARTER SYSTEMS MUST REGISTER FOR THE 9 OR 12 HOUR SESSIONS.
 

True Community Engagement: Beyond Listing it on Your Strategic Plan  (June 7, 2018) $230.00 

Participants will receive 6 credit hours.  Participants will understand the components of the GA Vision Project and VILLA; be shown examples of true collaboration between parents, Board and Superintendent; Discuss Strategic Plans for Districts and Direction and Movement for Parent Involvement and Community Engagement; Discuss the Top 10 Issues in GA Facing Education; and a demonstration of VILLA and how to use the resources. 

Participants will be presented best ideas for each the components:

1.  Early Learning and Success ... literacy bus

2.  Teaching & Learning ... cohorts and collaborations for teacher training

3.  Teaching & Learning Resources ... continued education and early learning capacity

4.  Human and Organizational Capitol ... identifying and recruiting the right people

5.  Governance, Leadership & Accountability ... training and empowering

6.  Culture, Climate, Organizational Efficacy ... positive learning environment

7.  Financial Resources... SPLOSTs, Foundations and grants

Lunch is included in the registration fee.  This workshop begins at 8:30 AM.

Policy Workshop (June 7, 2018) - $230.00
Angela Palm, Director of Policy & Legislative Services and attorney Phil Hartley will provide the latest information on the happenings under the Gold Dome.  Participants will receive 6 credit hoursLunch is included in the registration fee.  This workshop begins at 8:30 AM.

 

Rewriting the Rules:  How Governance Teams Can Cultivate Greater Opportunities that Support the Success of All Students and Enrich Their Communities

(June 7, 2018) - $230.00

This workshop is being led by Dr. Joshua Starr and Dr. Gislaine Ngounou from PDK International.  Participants will:

  • Dive into Georgia's Gallup Survey results on the public's perception of its education system and deepen their understanding of the board's role in next-level work.
  • Learn how to leverage the power of storytelling as an effective tool for organizing and mobilizing people to action and leadership.
  • Cultivate the habits of mind necessary to engage in personal, ongoing learning and growth about what it means to lead and govern with an equity lens.
  • Learn successful school district practices that improve student outcomes.
  • Assess their own capacity on a continuum of cultural responsiveness and learn how to engage colleagues in a similar critical introspection.
  • Formulate 1-2 goals based on the self-work they wish to continue to develop.
  • Learn how to leverage their role as board members in leading and governing stakeholders to make a difference in their communities.

GSBA Delegate Assembly - The Annual Delegate Assembly is held on Friday, June 8 in the afternoon.  Your system's  Delegate and Alternate Delegate should make every effort to be in attendance.  At this session, the voting occurs on the legislative positions for GSBA for the coming legislative year.
