Region 13 Meeting

ASBA holds meetings every fall at a school district within each of its 14 regions across the state.  These dinner meetings are the perfect opportunity for board members and superintendents to network with colleagues and hear timely information about district governance and upcoming events. For 2019, our agenda will include:
•    How Do We Move Our Schools Toward Continuous Improvement? A Guide for School Board Members. This session will be conducted by guest presenters from the Department of Education and include a brief overview of ESSA School Index and MySchool Info including what boards need to know about this resource and any recent changes to the system; your district’s accountability timelines; and, how to improve your school using the High Reliability Framework, what the HRS scale and its levels mean. They will leave time to answer questions you may have.
•    ASBA staff will present up-to-date information about some of the more board relevant requirements that came out of the 2019 legislative session. Among the things addressed will be: changes in board election timelines, recording requirements for board meetings, audit and school safety training requirements for board members, and what’s currently happening with the adequacy study.
WHEN: Tuesday, October 22, 2019

Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. A networking dinner will be served promptly at 6 p.m. A brief business meeting and program presentation will follow and the meeting will conclude at 8:30 p.m.

TRAINING HOURS:  School board members will earn three hours of boardsmanship training credit for attending.

REGISTRATION:  A $45 per person registration fee will be charged to cover costs of materials and dinner. To be included in the meal count, your registration must be made by October 15, 2019 through ASBA, not through the host school district.  Please note:  We will bill your district based on the meal count you turn in, not on actual attendance since host districts must order and pay for meals based on the counts that districts submit.

Requests for cancellation must be in writing to Cancellation requests received through October 15, 2019 will be refunded at 100 percent. Requests received after Oct. 15 will be refunded at 50 percent. There will be no refunds for cancellations after October 18.

SPECIAL NOTE:  If you cannot attend the meeting scheduled in your specific region, you may attend any of the other regional meetings. Visit ASBA’s website to see the complete schedule. If you or your board members plan to attend a different meeting, please notify Kathy Ivy and you will be provided the registration link for that particular meeting.
